Jimin began dancing in middle school while attending Just Dance Academy. He then studied contemporary dance at Busan High School of Arts where he was a top student in the modern dance department.
In 2012, at the age of 17, Jimin auditioned for Big Hit Entertainment after his teacher encouraged him to audition with an entertainment company. He would go on to become a trainee and eventually the final member to join BTS. He had the shortest time as a trainee of all the BTS members at 6 month prior to debut.

On February 8, 2013, BTS released their song titled βGraduationβ featuring j-hope, Jimin, and Jung Kook. The song is an adaptation of βYoung, Wild, and Freeβ by Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa.
On June 13, 2013, Jimin debuted as part of BTS on Mnet M! Countdown performing their track βNo More Dreamβ from the bandβs debut single album β2 Cool 4 Skoolβ.
On October 1, 2013, BTS released their song, βBeautiful,β featuring j-hope, Jimin, V, & Jungkook. It is an adaptation of Mariah Careyβs song with the same name.
The lyrics were written by RM, j-hope, and Supreme Boi, and mixed by Pdogg.
On December 23, 2013, BTS released the song titled, βA Typical Idolβs Christmas (νν μμ΄λμ ν¬λ¦¬μ€λ§μ€),β featuring Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, and V.
